UCD Archives Document of the Month: Oct 16

Since the redesign of our website in 2015, UCD Archives has highlighted a Document of the Month on our homepage. The documents have been chosen by the archivists to draw attention to documents of topical interest, to a newly available collection or to commemorate a specific anniversary or event.

Starting in October 2016, we will begin an occasional series of documents of the month chosen by the researchers who use collections in UCD Archives. The first document is from UCDA P194 Papers of Michael MacWhite. It was chosen by Colm Madden, a doctoral candidate and history tutor in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick.

Michael MacWhite was an extraordinary man who gave exceptional service to independent Ireland. The document Colm has chosen is P194/7, a handwritten description by MacWhite of life at the Front during World War I, dated 11 October 1916.
