‘All Aboard 2017’ was held during the week of 3rd – 7th April. ‘All Aboard’ is a series of national and regional public events designed to build confidence in Ireland’s digital skills for learning. ‘UCD in the Community’ coordinated UCD’s engagement with this initiative. Teaching and Learning, IT Services, Access & Life Long Learning and UCD Library all took part. UCD Library was represented on the committee by Jenny Collery.
UCD Library ran two events as part of this initiative. On the morning of Wednesday 5th April, Jane Nolan gave an exceptionally well attended talk at dlr Lexicon “Free website sources for historical maps of Ireland.” This focussed on showing how to search selected websites, including UCD Digital Library’s OSi 19th Century Historical Maps Collection. The audience showed great interest during and after the talk, with many requesting a copy of the presentation afterwards.
On the evening of Thursday 6th April, Jenny Collery’s presentation “Freely available Historical Sources from UCD Digital Library”, took place in the UCD Writing Centre. This was attended by members of local history societies. Jenny’s talk highlighted the Boehm/Casement Papers, Desmond Fitzgerald Photographs 1916-1922, essays from the Schools’ Manuscript Collection, the Father Gleeson diaries and letters and the Folklore Photograph Collection, amongst others. Again, the audience was highly engaged with lots of questions, followed at the end by requests for the presentation.
