It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

UCD Library and UCD Exams

It’s that time of the year again…UCD exams!

As we all know the library will be very busy from now until Christmas, with students coming in to study for exams seven days a week. Here is a reminder, a few tips, and some information from all of us here in the library.

UPDATE: Additional Study Space on Belfield Campus!

UCD Estates, in conjunction with the Students’ Union, have made some additional study spaces available during this busy period. Located in the basement of the Restaurant Building, adjacent to the UCD Global Lounge, this space is open Monday – Sunday from 8am – 10pm.

Astra Hall Late Night Study:

The following rooms have been allocated for study space (between 8.00am-10.00pm unless otherwise indicated) this week:

Thursday, 13th December

AG 1.47 & BLD 71

Friday, 14th December

AG 1.47, BLD 71 , E1.17 (Science)

See campus map for locations.

Library Opening Hours

We are currently open longer in the run-up to exams, with the James Joyce Library open from 7am – 12 midnight Monday-Friday and 9am-9pm on weekends. See our full timetable for the opening times for all of our locations.

UPDATE: We are now also featuring longer Sunday hours in the James Joyce Library during exams, on Sunday, 16th December. The hours are 8am – 12 midnight.

Don’t be a Space Hog!

As always, study spaces in all five UCD Library locations will be at a premium. Spare a thought for your fellow students who are actively looking for somewhere to sit. If you’re leaving the library for any length of time please take your things and free up the space.

Once again we are running our “Space Hog” campaign. Look for our tweets, Facebook and Instagram posts and our website homepage for more throughout the exams period.

See our short video:

Drinks in reusable containers are now allowed

We now allow hot and cold (non-alcoholic!) drinks into all UCD libraries, provided they are in reusable, containers with secure lids. Have a tea or coffee while you study!

Some study tips

Remember to take frequent breaks, stretch your legs and eat properly! Look out for more tips for staying healthy throughout this period on our various social media channels.

New study spaces in James Joyce Library

There are two new student study spaces in the James Joyce Library: Link 4 and The Pod. Link 4 is a glass-walled room situated on Level 2 near the Law collection on the lake-side of the Library.  This space is for group or individual study and also boasts 18 power sockets for your devices.

The Pod is an enclosed space that seats between 3-8 students for collaborative study, and also includes power sockets. This new space is also located on Level 2, near the exhibition area. See our study spaces web page for more details.

Support for all students

Don’t forget to visit the UCD Maths Support Centre and the UCD Writing Centre, both located in the James Joyce Library. The tutors are very knowledgeable and can help you prepare for your exams. The Maths Support Centre will also be open on the following Saturdays: 24 November (4-6pm), 1 December and 8 December.

Health & Wellbeing Book Collection

Have you browsed our extensive health and wellbeing book collection? This vast array of titles on subjects such as stress reduction, cooking and eating properly, mindfulness, coping with depression and more is available to all UCD students in the James Joyce, Health Sciences and UCD Blackrock libraries. See our online guide to the collection, and browse the bookshelves today. There’s something for everyone!

Be sure to ask Library staff if you have any queries during the next few weeks. Check back to this post for further updates throughout the exams period.

Thank you, and the best of luck with the studying!
